Product Overview & Technical Data
Product Overview
ground mount pv purlin standards require extruded 6005A-T5 aluminium construction featuring module clamping interfaces and fixing slots formed specifically to array designer layouts.
The purlin is the member the modules actually clamp to, and it is the part of a ground-mount structure most likely to be under-designed. It spans between the rafters or torque tubes, carries the module dead load plus snow, and takes uplift in the opposite direction – and the uplift case is usually the governing one, because a module acts as a very efficient wing. Section stiffness has to be adequate in both bending under gravity.
Aluminium is chosen over steel here for a specific reason rather than a general one. A purlin in a ground-mount array sits within a metre of the soil, in a permanently damp micro-climate, often on agricultural or coastal land, and it is the member the installer drills, cuts and clamps on site. Every one of those site operations breaches a galvanised coating; an aluminium extrusion cut on site is still corrosion-resistant at the cut face. Over a 25-year plant life that is the difference between a structure that needs inspection and one that does not.

The seven figures that let us quote an aluminium purlin section instead of guessing at one
| Span and rafter centres | The clear span between rafters or torque tubes, and the purlin centres across the table. These two figures set the section depth more than anything else. |
| Governing load case | Site snow load and design wind speed, and whether uplift or gravity governs. On most ground-mount arrays uplift governs. |
| Module clamp interface | Top-clamp, bottom-mount or insert channel, plus module frame height and the clamp make you intend to use. |
| Fixing and pre-punching | Hole pattern, slot positions and any pre-punching to be done at the plant rather than drilled on site. |
| Cut length and tolerance | Finished length per piece and the length tolerance you work to; cut length is made to order inside the design envelope. |
| Finish and site environment | Mill, anodised, powder-coated or PVDF, and whether the site is agricultural, coastal or high-altitude – it changes the finish recommendation. |
| Quantity and schedule | Tonnage per delivery and the delivery dates. Minimum order is 500 kg per profile, and standard lead time is 25 – 35 days from PO confirmation. |
A ground-mount purlin is dimensioned to the array, not chosen from a shelf. Send the racking layout or a marked-up section drawing with the figures above and we will come back with the profile that suits the span, the die status – existing die, modified die or new tooling – and a price per tonne against your quantity. Where the geometry is close to a die already in production, that route is faster and cheaper than new tooling, and we will say which applies before you commit.

Dimensional and performance figures are taken from the manufacturing partner’s own product catalogue. Mill certificates, spectrometer analysis reports and coating thickness records are issued with each shipment.
Long-span low-pile designs
6005A-T5 stiffness lets the purlin span further and cut the pile count.
High-snow-load regions
Section sized for the downward case as well as the governing uplift case.
Carport and canopy arrays
Purlins spanning between structural frames with modules clamped directly.
Tracker and torque-tube arrays
Module-bearing member fixed to the torque tube, where rotating load reversal makes section stiffness in both directions the governing check.
Repowering and array extensions
Replacement runs matched to an existing array’s hole pattern and module clamp, so new bays line up with structures already in the field.
What we can change for your project – and what we cannot
Material and Grade
Metal specification follows the section: 6063-T5 for standard architectural extrusions, 6005-T5 where the design needs a higher mechanical rating in the same envelope, 6061-T6 for the most heavily loaded members. Chemistry on every heat is confirmed by direct-reading spectrometer in the on-site spectroscopy lab, and mechanical properties are verified in the physical-mechanical lab before release.
Surface Finish
All the usual architectural finishes are available and all of them are produced in-house – anodised, powder-coated, fluorocarbon (PVDF) coated, electrophoretically lacquered and wood-grain heat transferred. The vertical powder line, the PVDF line and the wood-grain vacuum transfer oven sit on the same 40,000 m² site as the extrusion presses, with chromium-free pre-treatment ahead of every coating process.
Custom Tooling
Dies are designed and cut in-house, with simulation analysis before steel is committed and vacuum nitriding afterwards. That means a bespoke section can be opened to a customer’s drawing, and an existing die can be modified where a project needs a variant rather than a whole new section – usually the faster and cheaper of the two routes.
Made-to-Order Sizing
Sizing is to order throughout: cut length to the customer’s schedule, wall thickness anywhere within the envelope the section was designed for, colour to a signed-off sample, and packing unit set to suit how the material will be handled at the other end.
Factory and Export Capability
Shipping is handled by the factory itself, which holds a direct export licence for aluminium and aluminium products. The plant runs 375 staff including 45 technical personnel across three in-house laboratories. Packing for export uses protective film, moisture barrier, foam interleaving and timber crating, with FOB, CIF and DDP all available.
Production and Finishing
Extrusion in the confirmed alloy and temper, then anodising, powder coating, PVDF, electrophoresis or wood-grain transfer to the approved colour sample.
Applications
Where this profile is specified
The configuration of Where this profile is specified is selected against the operating conditions, installation interfaces and destination-market requirements. Include the intended use and site constraints in the RFQ.
Utility-scale ground-mount arrays
The clamping member between rafters, dimensioned to the array’s own span and load case.
Agricultural and agrivoltaic sites
Damp, corrosive ground-level conditions where site-cut galvanising fails first.
Coastal and saline installations
Aluminium retains corrosion resistance at cut and drilled faces.
