Product Overview & Technical Data

Product Overview

65mq180 curtain wall mullion – the deepest section in the 65MQ110-180 range at 180 mm, with a 65 mm visible face, bolted glass fixing and a setting block under every glass unit.

The 180 mm mullion is the top of the 65MQ range and it is specified for one reason: the highest wind loads. Mullion depth in a curtain wall is set by span and pressure, and on a tall tower – or on any building in a cyclone or high-wind zone – the upper corners generate pressures several times the mid-facade figure. The 180 mm section is what covers those zones. Shallower depths of 110, 120, 150 and 160 mm are available in the same series for the areas that do not need it. Every certified 65mq180 curtain wall mullion assembly is structurally engineered to withstand extreme high-wind pressures safely.

Two details are worth reading closely. Glass units are bolted to the transom and mullion rather than relying on adhesive or friction alone, which gives a mechanical, inspectable connection – the kind a structural engineer will sign for on a high-rise. And a setting block is provided under every glass unit to relieve the shear load created by the glass’s own weight. Insulating glass units fail at the edge seal when their weight is carried through the sealant instead of through a block, and that failure shows up as a fogged unit five years after handover. Additional custom 65mq180 curtain wall mullion configurations are available for specialized high-rise or high-wind architectural applications.

All three facade styles are available inside the series – hidden-frame, semi-hidden-frame and exposed-frame – so the architectural expression can change across a building while the structural system, the bracket detail and the ancillary schedule stay the same.

FEATURE 01

Tell Us the Duty

The useful starting point is what the profile has to do: span, wind load, U-value target, opening type. From that we identify the series and say plainly where a cheaper option would be a false economy.

FEATURE 02

Tooling Where Needed

Bespoke sections are normal here rather than exceptional. Die design, simulation, machining and vacuum nitriding are all in-house, and you approve a sample extrusion before production is booked.

International Delivery

FOB, CIF and DDP support covers packing, loading, customs declaration and international logistics.

Certificates, test reports and delivery documents are subject to the current project, product model and documents available from the manufacturer.

Technical Data & Specification Review

Published parameters are reference configurations for this series. Final values are subject to approved drawings, manufacturer technical documents, samples and project inspection records.

Dimensional and performance figures are taken from the manufacturing partner’s own product catalogue. Mill certificates, spectrometer analysis reports and coating thickness records are issued with each shipment.

What we can change for your project – and what we cannot

Material and Grade

Metal specification follows the section: 6063-T5 for standard architectural extrusions, 6005-T5 where the design needs a higher mechanical rating in the same envelope, 6061-T6 for the most heavily loaded members. Chemistry on every heat is confirmed by direct-reading spectrometer in the on-site spectroscopy lab, and mechanical properties are verified in the physical-mechanical lab before release.

Surface Finish

All the usual architectural finishes are available and all of them are produced in-house – anodised, powder-coated, fluorocarbon (PVDF) coated, electrophoretically lacquered and wood-grain heat transferred. The vertical powder line, the PVDF line and the wood-grain vacuum transfer oven sit on the same 40,000 m² site as the extrusion presses, with chromium-free pre-treatment ahead of every coating process.

Custom Tooling

Tooling is made in-house, which is what makes bespoke sections practical rather than theoretical. Flow behaviour is checked by simulation before steel is cut, the die is then machined and hardened in a vacuum nitriding furnace, and a first sample length is produced for approval before the run starts. Customer drawings and physical samples are both accepted as the starting point.

Made-to-Order Sizing

Dimensions are confirmed per order rather than assumed: the length schedule, the wall thickness within the section’s design envelope, the colour against a signed sample, and the packing unit. Where a fabricator supplies a cutting list, the profiles arrive cut to it and ready to machine.

Factory and Export Capability

Export goes direct. The approved partner manufacturer holds its own import-export licence for aluminium products and supervises its own container loading, whether the order fills a container or consolidates with others. Capacity is 50,000 tonnes a year at the partner manufacturing base and more than 100,000 tonnes group-wide. Packing is protective film, moisture barrier, foam interleaving and timber crates; terms are FOB, CIF or DDP.

Alloy, Temper, Finish

Billet chemistry is checked by spectrometer on every heat, the temper is confirmed to the drawing, and the finish is applied in-house over approved partner manufacturer chromium-free pre-treatment.

The full range sits under Curtain Wall Systems, and the buildings and sites these products have gone into are listed under Overseas Facade Projects. If none of them is quite your specification, say what is different in the enquiry – most of what we ship is made to a drawing rather than picked off a shelf.

Send the drawings, the opening schedule or the performance target. Our engineers will confirm the series, the alloy, the finish and the delivered price — and tell you plainly if another series in the range fits your project better.

The plant’s published figures for this series – frame width, sight lines, thermal strip and the performance it states.

Specification Value
Visible face width 65 mm mullion and transom
Mullion depths 110 / 120 / 150 / 160 / 180 mm
Glass panel fixing bolted to mullion and transom
Panel support a glass support under every panel, so panel dead load is not carried in shear
Framing styles hidden, semi-hidden and exposed frame; dedicated transition blocks give an exposed-frame result in either mill-finish or thermal-break aluminium
Ancillaries common across mullion depths

Transcribed from the extruding plant’s own product specification document. Figures not stated in that document are not listed here rather than estimated – ask and they will be confirmed against the die drawing for your order.

Applications

Mixed-expression elevations

Hidden, semi-hidden and exposed frame styles all sit within the same series.

01

Where this profile is specified

The configuration of Where this profile is specified is selected against the operating conditions, installation interfaces and destination-market requirements. Include the intended use and site constraints in the RFQ.

02

High-rise tower facades

The deepest section in the range, sized for the wind pressures at the top of a tall building.

03

Corner and parapet zones

Local pressure coefficients at corners are far above mid-facade values and drive mullion depth.

04

Typhoon and high-wind regions

Coastal East and South-East Asian projects where design wind speed governs the whole facade.

05

Long-span floor-to-floor heights

Atria and double-height lobbies where the mullion spans further than a standard storey.

06

Mechanically fixed glazing

Bolted glass to transom and mullion gives an inspectable structural connection.

Quality Control & Inspection

Inspection for 65MQ180 High-Rise Curtain Wall Mullion can cover the approved specification, appearance, dimensions and agreed performance checks. Factory or third-party inspection criteria must be confirmed before the order.

Packing & Delivery

Shipping and Terms

Container loading is supervised by our own staff, packing is film, moisture barrier, foam interleaving and timber crating, and terms are FOB, CIF or DDP as you prefer.
